Historical Features
The clocktower was bulit on the ruins of a Byzantine tower which was connected with the Palace of the Grand Masters. From evidence we know that in the beginning the tower was part of the Byzantine walls and was first
built at the end of the 7th century. In 1856 it was virtually destroyed by the explosion from the nearby church of St. John of the Kinghts. In the same year work began on the restoration by Fehti Pasha. He was the one who gave it the final character with its Baroque features, and he dedicated it in the memory of his father.
Nowawdays, you have the opportunity to do your shopping and enjoy a coffee or refreshing drink in the relaxed atmosphere of Roloi's recently restored environment. Roloi is a ideal place to take photographs and video, with spectacular views over the Venetian Castle Old Town and certainly a monument you cannot afford to miss.

An excisting mechanism of the clock, 150 years old.
